MANUEL PEREZ - Paradise Already

ENJ025

Download on JunoDownload on iTunes

enj025Here is a sparkling effort from long time DJ and producer Manuel Perez, formelly based in Stockholm and who now lives in the summery paradise of Banyuls Sur Mer on the French-Catalonian coast.

Paradise Already is a smooth deep house gem likely to win over a range of converts. Remixes come from Catalonian starlet Bonnie Drasko and Mark O’Sullivan of DK7 fame.

  • The ORIGINAL is an effortlessly cool dancefloor winner. It features cool keys, fizzing synthetics and commanding vocals.
  • BONNIE DRASKO submerges the grooves on his remix. Waves of keys, watery synths and diving beats do the work on his sub-aqua version.
  • MARK O’SULLIVAN’s Remix has a somewhat darker feel. O’Sullivan employs textured percussion, a groovy bassline and loops the vocals on his cool revision.
  • MARK O’SULLIVAN’s Jazz Dub is a lively interpretation. It features jumping drums, cutting keys and questioning vocals.

WHAT THEY THINK:

DJ Tres Manos Love the vocal! Marc O Sullivan’s jazz dub is EPIC! Can’t wait to play this! Full support!

Oscar AguilleraSpecially like Bonnie Drasko remix and original version, full support.

Sam Labelle Great track! Very classic Ibiza house sound!

DJ Widenski Very good release! I like the original the most!

Desy Balmer There is no one right now making better techno-disco-house music. Perez really fuses the best elements of each. I’d love to here Perez remix Pet Shop Boys. All mixes are good ! Quality release!

Sammy Rock Paradise indeed exsist in this wonderful package full of quality mixes and oversea’s production work that works with the vocals. Quality mixes by Bonnie Drasko and Mark O’Sullivan. Full Support!

Shur-I-KanNice chords, not so sure about some of the sounds but got something about it. The remixes are pretty cool!”

HAKAN LIDBO feat. YOTA - Love To Me (vol.1)

ENJ023

Download on JunoDownload on iTunes

ENJ023

Håkan Lidbo is no stranger to Enjoy Music. Most recently, What Is Love resurfaced on the label, remixed by a host of electronic acts such as Martin Brodin and Brice Bertran. Lidbo’s Hackney To Caracas album was also reissued by Enjoy, a number of years after its original outing on Wrong Steps. Love To Me is an awesome mid tempo vocal escapade that is worthy of both the pop charts and the clubs. It is available in four different versions, suitable for a range of musical situations, and more remixes will follow later this summer.

A musical chameleon and workaholic, Håkan Lidbo has released hundreds of records over the years that have spanned various genres. He has used colourful aliases such as Bobby Trafalgar, Ho Shan-Ling Bu and Miss Bombay 1974. Lidbo’s tunes have appeared on many labels such as Paper, Poker Flat, Loaded, Tongut and Morris Audio. He has produced music for Yello and remixed the likes of Lisa Shaw, Ennio Morricone, Depeche Mode, Fever Ray and Fatboy Slim. Lidbo’s music has appeared in adverts, TV programmes, films, computer games and even a ballet. Lidbo also hosts a radio show on Swedish national radio entitled Ström and organises the Voltfestivalen. Lidbo has even created Xoiiox, a music based game for the iPad and the P2Ström iPhone application.
Yota is a Stockholm born songstress, who is currently based in France. She began working with electronic music producers in the late 90s, hooking up with Scandinavian dance royalty such as Martin Venetjoki, Håkan Lidbo and Zoo Brazil / Laid. A talented writer, Yota has penned songs for major labels that have included Universal. Over the years, she has worked with the likes of Alan Braxe, Stonebridge and John Dahkback, recently releasing a number of tracks with French don Lifelike.

  • ORIGINAL is a cool electronic number, featuring groovy synths and inviting vocals.
  • CLUB MIX uses warm bass effects and purring synthetics to create a revision for the dancefloor.
  • DUB MIX drapes selective vocal elements over magical keys and simple beats.
  • RADIO EDIT is a neat version for moments that demand a shorter edit.

MAX CHERRY - Keep Rockin’

ENJ019

Download on JunoDownload on iTunes

ENJ019

Max Cherry steps up to the Enjoy Recordings table with a track designed to make you Keep Rockin. It is a grooving slice of house, which is accompanied by a range of remixes.  Franck Garcia provides a tasty remix that blurs disco and techy ideals, whilst Suave’s remix does it for jazzier floors and Cherry’s own 80s dub is a bassy revision. Cherry’s Beat Conductor release saw an outing on Enjoy Music in 2009.

Max Cherry is Paris based Maxime Bassole. In 2004, he started the Vicky Productions label with Esteban. Cherry remixed In The Club “She’s A Man” with Richard Bassole, which saw an outing on the Un Eté 2006 compilation. He also remixed Alton Miller’s Everyday I Do, released on Lace. Cherry is also a member of electro-rock outfit Hektor and hiphop duo Full Clip.

Perpignan based Franck Garcia is a classically trained musician. He is best known for his work alongside Caroline Laher aka Mlle Caro. As recording artists for Buzzin’ Fly and Crosstown Rebels, the duo have been very successful. Their second album, Left, was released on Buzzin’Fly in April 2010, which followed 2008’s Pain Disappears LP. Mlle Caro & Franck Garcia’s tracks have been remixed by the likes of Matthew Jonson, Ewan Pearson and Radio Slave.

Suave is a producer based in Languedoc-Roussillon, France. He has been responsible for a number of cool edits of soul and disco tracks, which you can find on his myspace page. He cites the likes of MAW, The Beastie Boys, Nino Ferrer and John Coltrane as influences.

  • The ORIGINAL is a very danceable effort with cool keys, funked out bass work and spoken vocal commands.
  • FRANCK GARCIA’S REMIX is a techy disco version, featuring a fun bassline, running synths and vocodered vocals.
  • SUAVE’S REMIX opts for jazzy pianos, storming beats and crazy brass. The 80S CHERRY DUB is a bass driven version with shaky percussion, sliced vocals and driving synths.

WHAT THEY THINK:

DJ Mourad “Suave remix is brilliant!
Desy Balmer
This is a cool EP, super beats and nice vibes - keeps you rocking all right!

Dean Serafini “Looking forward to playing it loud

BRICE BERTRAN feat. VALÉRIE BROCHARD - I Wish

ENJ018

Download on JunoDownload on iTunesDownload on Beatport

ENJ018

Perpignan’s Enjoy Recordings welcomes local son Brice Bertran to the fold for a supremely soulful effort. “I Wish” is an optimistic ode to love, which comes in various flavours. There is the downtempo original, two uptempo versions from Bertran for soulful and jazzy lovers, and a remix from Physics. It is another excellent and varied outing from the Enjoy imprint, keeping with the diversity of the label.

Brice Bertran aka Killersounds is an accomplished producer, arranger and keyboard player. He is as comfortable making Hip Hop and relaxed grooves as uptempo music.  Over the years he’s worked on projects such as Rouge À Lèvres and has made music with artists like P18 of Mano Negra fame.  Bertran cites the likes of Incognito, Moodymann, Q-Tip and Herbie Hancock as influences. He has previously appeared on Enjoy Recordings, remixing Håkan Lidbo feat.Emma’s What Is Love.

French singer Valérie Brochard is a professional vocalist, who has featured on various R’N’B and dance records.  She is also known for her cover of “Sweat Dreams”.

Physics are a Swedish house act, who make deep and soulful efforts where live instrumentation is very important. The first 12” released by Physics was the Grooveyard EP, which came out in 2001 on Yellhouse. Since then, they have been a mainstay on Deeplay Music and have recorded for labels such as Large Music, Swing City and Soulstar. There have been two Physics albums, entitled First Flight (Deeplay Music) and Influences (Seamless). Physics tracks have been licensed to compilations on Ministry of Sound, Journeys By DJ, Hed Kandi, Slip n Slide and React.

  • club mix This is an uplifting stormer of a mix, which will be lapped up by soulful fans. It takes its power from rising synths, on point beats and praising vocals.
  • swing mix The Swing mix is a jazzier interpretation. Magical keys, jumping percussion and a hyperactive bassline combine on this version.
  • Physics Remix Physics bring us a trademark soul kissed house revision. Striding beats, warming guitars and purring keys link up on this remix.
  • Original Bertran’s original is a slinky downbeat ode to love. Cool keys, funked out guitars and open beats meet behind hopeful vocals here.

WHAT THEY THINK:

Sam LaBelle Valerie’s vocals are sinful! Very classy!”
Laurent Garnier
Will play the lovely club mix!

Gene Hunt Cool cut, nice and open vibe. Will play it for sure.

HAKAN LIDBO feat EMMA - What Is Love (volume1+volume2)

ENJ007/ENJ021

Classic Alert!!! This is a digitally re-mastered release of an Enjoy Recordings favourite.

Back in 2002, Swedish musical chameleon Håkan Lidbo and Stockholm based singer Emma Holmgren created gorgeous mid-tempo cover of Howard Jones’s “What Is Love”.

Emma has also worked with the likes of Zoo Brazil and Bacuzzi“The One”, which she released with Laid aka Zoo Brasil, was covered by Australian pop star Kylie Minogue. Her vocals have graced releases on labels such as Loaded, Airtight, Stealth and Plastic City.

Håkan Lidbo and Emma’s version of “What Is Love” set the world alight in Scandinavia, with the song reaching the national pop charts in Sweden and being licensed to various compilations worldwide. It also appeared on Lidbo’s Hackney To Caracas album that surfaced in 2003 and was recently made available again by Enjoy Recordings.

In addition to Lidbo’s 2002 versions and remixes by Brice bertran, Manuel Perez, Raph Dumas and José Barrachina (volume 1), a new bunch of remixes updates Håkan Lidbo feat. Emma’s “What Is Love” for the start of a new decade. These new mixes shed new light on a classic record and are released on the same day as a remastered reissue of the original package from 2002. Martin Brodin offers a startling big room take, whilst Killersounds go for a cool funked out escapade. Brice Bertran brings us a deeper house revision with heaps of percussion and José Barrachina opts for an acoustic guitar driven excursion.  The new remixes complement the original revisions and will help to take this excellent cover to a wider audience (volume 2).

WHAT THEY THINK:

Ralph Myerz NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will play lots of mixes from this one!!!
Rocco Really nice Ep !! Nice deep soul vibes. So many good mixes.

Aaron Carl
I remember the original, but WOW.. this version really brings it back to life! I LOVE the stripped-down feel of Manuel’s remix. I will definitely play this!
Johnny Fiasco
Slammin soulful support on this one!
Michael Fossati
Lovely selection of mixes to choose from this beautiful cover of the Howard Jones classic.
Sammy Rock
This is a very nice re-release, a beautiful vocal sung by Emma with soulful implications and the gorgeous guitar riff is perfect.

Kazuumi Ishii
Yess, Hakan Lidbo did a great job. I really love the original. Beautiful.
DJ Lady DYummy! She sounds like Tracey Thorn and that’s a good thing! Killer batch of mixes, versatile!

  • Raph Dumas & José Barrachina remix This version from Dumas and Barrachina is perfect for deep and soulful audiences.  Spirited keys, a funked out bass and live guitar theatrics work wonders on this mix.
  • Brice Bertran soulful remix Brice Bertran’s soulful version will suit backrooms and versatile record spinners. Beautiful mid-tempo grooves are created by sparkling keys, fat beats and a succulent bass-line.
  • Manuel Perez remix Manuel Perez takes Håkan and Emma onto deep and techier floors with a cool key driven mix. Firing beats, reliable synths and Emma’s sweet vocals meet behind those magical keys on Perez‘s cool mix.
  • Original version Håkan Lidbo and Emma’s stunning cover of What Is Love is an outstanding midterm effort. Emma questions the nature of amorous attraction over grooving guitars and polite beats on this blissful track.
  • Martin Brodin remix Deeplay boss Brodin supplies a dark take on What Is Love for big room floors. Moody synths, hefty stabs and a swirling bassline sit behind Emma’s questioning vocals on this anthemic remix.
  • Killersounds remix Under his Killersounds guise, Brice Bertran drops a cool new midtempo take for bars and funked up floors. The beats move along nicely, the synths provide the groove and cool keys add an extra dimension.
  • Brice Bertran afrosoul remix Under his real name, Bertran offers a layered percussive mission for deeper house floors. Emma’s gorgeous vocals show the power of affection over effortless keys and steady percussion on Brice‘s second revision.
  • José Barrachina bossa unplugged José Barrachina takes the track to a completely different dimension, with his sweet Bossa Unplugged version. Barrachina lays an understanding acoustic guitar under Emma’s loving vocals on a mix that is perfect for quieter moments.

RAPH DUMAS & THE PRIMAVERAS - Ode To Tanguy Jo

ENJ017

enj017_ode-to-tanguy-jo_sleeve

During the last 15 years, Raph Dumas has done it all. He counts record shop owner, label manager, DJ, stage performer, producer and many other occupations as his job. After flooring dancers in clubs recently with tracks such as Multi-Electronics and A Rare Toy (Lace Recordings), Raph now takes up a different job completely. As bandleader of The Primaveras (”Springs” in Spanish and Catalan), Dumas provides a mind-blowing musical history lesson that focuses on his homeland of Catalonia.

This is a very personal project, as Tanguy Jo was the nickname of Raph Dumas’s grandfather, a Spanish-Catalonian refugee hunted by Franco’s army. In 1939, Tanguy Jo settled Port-Vendres, a small fishing city in Northern Catalonia. Tanguy Jo started an Orchestre de Bal Traditionnel (literally orchestra of traditional balls) with other Spanish immigrants and musicians from Barcelona. The act became one of the first fusion bands to blend traditional Catalan instruments with electric guitars, drums, keyboards and other modern gear. The band became successful and played all over Northern Catalonia for many years. However, in the late sixties, competition from orchestras playing popular songs and burgeoning DJ based entertainment in nightclubs forced the musical outfit out of business. Tanguy Jo had to sell all his equipment and take a job working in Port-Vendres’ fishing port, later driving round Europe selling mussels from a truck. There are no recordings left from Tanguy Jo’s band and only a few photographs show their existence. Raph’s grandfather never mentioned anything to him about this part of his life, because he considered himself a failed musician.

The Primaveras project is a modern interpretation of band’s music in its glory days, with the same desire to fuse the heritage of Catalonia with modern musical ideas. Mr. Dumas provides cool samples and smart scratches to this project, whilst the band provides considerable musical muscle. Another important role is played by French Saxophone hero Alex Augé, who has worked with the likes of The Wailers and Regg’lys. Augé supplies amazing brass arrangements, which are very important to this project. The other members of Primaveras are Patrick Félicès (bass), Thierry Lopez (Guitar), Sébastien Sanz (Keyboards), Vincent Vidalou (Tible and Tenora - traditional Catalonian woodwind instruments), Frédéric Guisset (Flute and Flaviol - Flaviol is a Catalonian flute) and Georges Vaills (Trombone). On occasions, the band is joined by La Cobla Catalana Mil.Lenaria, a Catalan instrumental ensemble that accompanies the traditional Catalonian La Sardana dance. La Cobla Catalana Mil.Lenaria gives the group a big band set up in live environments.

The first LP from Raph Dumas & the Primaveras entitled Ode to Tanguy Jo is a unique album. The title refers to the classic Ode To Billie Joe song and is a tribute to Tanguy Jo and his secret band. It explores various musical horizons, melding together gutsy rhythms from various dance genres with improvisational ideals from jazz, raw funk power and ancestral Catalonian sounds. On paper, this musical mix sounds hard to stomach, but the various flavours work together wonderfully. There are a number of highlights on this remarkable album. Le Chanson Douce (Soul Long Edit) is a playful ditty featuring a twanging plastic guitar, reliable percussion and sweet vocals from Dumas’s 4 year old daughter Lou. Zodiac is a jumping jazz effort, with sprightly sax, pushy trombones and kicking drums. Week End (BCN Edit) is a riotous celebration of the time to party, where grooving guitars, lovely strings and looped vocals play their part. The album brims with excitement and individual character from start to finish.

Ode to Tanguy Jo appears via the Catalonian based Enjoy Recordings stable. The label courts diverse artists, putting out records by the likes of Swedish electronic king Hakan Lidbo, Paris based house artist Max Cherry and early house revivalists Legal Disko. This personal album from Raph Dumas and his trusty band shows that the label is not afraid to take musical risks and supports the rich heritage of the Catalonian region.

HAKAN LIDBO - From Hackney To Caracas

ENJ020

Be prepared for this special experience, you will soon be asking for more.

Enjoy Recordings is releasing again by popular demand the long awaited album “From Hackney to Caracas” by Håkan Lidbo.

With some sense of humour, Håkan Lidbo has created a journey into exotic and unexpected situations in which his character has experiences between a suburban town and a dream destination.

The Man has got class, that’s a fact, and further to his success in the music industry, he can afford some irony about what success is about.

Starting with a vibe setting title-track and ending with the cover of Howard Jones’ hit “What is love?” - interpreted by Stockholm’s vocalist Emma- this breathtaking album sounds magic, exotica, percussive, spiritual, housey, funky and dreammy…

Arrangements being just amazing, all tracks are catchy and exiting for listeners and dancer’s pleasure.

The ultimate entertainment, Lidbo style…

MAX CHERRY - Beat Conductor

ENJ016

enj016_beatconductor_sleeve1

Enjoy recordings releases another dance-floor candy for the pleasure of all crowds. Max Cherry’s debut release is a cross over pumping track where he managed to great effect to blend-up some disco-breaks, retro bleepy sounds, sampled vocals action and jazzy chords.

DJ Janoz (from the “Famille” French electronic label) and Raph Dumas remix brings in some funky bass-line uplifted by eighties analogue stabs over a chest bouncing kick, intended for proto-disco sets.

Spanking beats, synthetic disco bass-line, modulated delays and paddy layers are the ingredients of Manuel Perez’ remix, with additional TB303 wobbling hypnotic lines on his bonus Acid dub version.

After being an active promoter of Enjoy and Lace record labels in Paris, Max Cherry, together with his mate Esteban, decided in 2004 to launch their own label: Vicky Productions. In the beginning of 2005 Vicky’s 2nd single reached the second position of the “Dance charts” in England.

After developing further skills in music making and record promoting, Max Cherry stays now focused on his own productions for Vicky ; working on the side for eclectic projects such as Hektor (an electrorock band he’s a part of) and Full Clip ( Hip-hop duet with MC Spike that is preparing his first album out in early 2010). His last production: one track “We love” and one remix for the hip-hop and house collective “Rouge à Lèvres” consisting of Disiz La Peste, Grems and IVromain. Those tracks are included in the album “Démaquille-toi”.

On the club scene, Max Cherry pays tribute in his mixes to all his musical influences, from brazilian beats to jazz through rock, funk and electro, in a permanent search of originality. He’s, since recently, associated with another DJ, Franck Garcia (Flying Buzz) for a hi-energy 2 desks performance that should make some buzz in the months to come.

LEGAL DISKO - Need A Beat / Jam Is Pumping

ENJ015

enj015_legaldisko

Mid-late eighties was a brilliant time in terms of evolution in modern dance-music and club-culture, also thanks to the introduction of affordable sampling- machines and other electronic instruments misused to great effect by creative DJ’s from the days.

With obvious references to that period, Legal Disko has delivered two floors fillers basically created as a joke: “Need A Beat” and “Jam Is Pumpin” are taken from an exclusive collection of tracks of that kind to be released on Enjoy Recordings over the next months.

With some serious sample action, pumping house-beats, fat bass-lines, wild effect-modulations, crispy analogue synths, uplifting string-pads and repetitive gimmicks, both “Need A Beat” and “Jam Is Pumpin” (and their dub versions) will be strong tunes to play whatever dance-floor you will be facing.

This double A-side single brings back some flavours that new crowds as much as experienced clubbers will understand and appreciate. No pretentious attempts of creating a trend, and no need to follow another one, so let’s just have a party… And don’t forget to turn on the strobes!

HÅKAN LIDBO & ALVINA RED - Moon and Stars

ENJ014

ENJ014

A few weeks later after the release of “Senegal” single, the legendary Hakan Lidbo is back on Enjoy Recordings with an outstanding and catchy mid-tempo radio friendly dance track : “Moon and Stars”.

Such a release should not be a surprise from an artist such as Hakan who has experimented with success all genres of modern dance music - from the most avant-garde electronica projects to real glamorous disco-house - that he has released on the best labels worldwide through the last decade…

“Moon and Stars” has also been written and performed by Swedish-French vocalist Alvina Red whose name has been around for a few years: she is a respected song-writer and singer known for great recordings that have been handled by talented producers like Pawel Kobak, Martinez, Dan Curtin or Jori Hulkkonen.

She is currently working on an album project for French label Marendadisc.

A couple of years ago, the demo version of “Moon and Stars” have been the object of an international remix contest won by Parisian tech-house young wizards Uninvited Partners, also known for their brilliant “Pyramide” single released last year on Deeplay Soultec. Deep-tech-dub oriented DJ’s will be delighted with this spacey version of the song.

Another version has also been supplied by South French deep-funk duet Labulo (also working with labels like Eklektik, 121 Records in France or Pork in the UK). Their remix proves that soft lyrics and fat funk bass-lines can be combined in harmony. Their highly appreciated production skills and their futuristic vision of pop music turned the song into a peaceful yet groovy masterpiece.

A radio edit, an extended club mix and dub mix version will also find their way in many play-lists.
