Yota

Yota

Yota is born in Stockholm, Sweden. Although her father was a performing singer and music had a great influence in her early life, Yota decided to go for arts school instead. As her first passion in life was art, running an art gallery with some friends along with studying arts was a natural choice for her.

Later on by chance, her best friend connected her with a music producer, she then decided to give music and singing a try and started working with dancemusic in the late 90’s for various electronic projects. Music took over more and more of her time. Later on she got in touch with Anders Mörén (Misty Music) and Håkan Lidbo (Container Publishing) around 2001.

After a signed publishing deal with Misty Music and with the first track “Let me be” with Martin Venetjoki which was released on Mouthful Music (a Chicago based recording label) things started rolling for real. Working with Zoo Brazil/Laid was her first strong release with a certain kind of high quality house music and she decided she would continue to focus on music in this genre.

As a talented melody and lyrics writer she was asked to work for Universal and some other majors.
In 2007 she moved to France and since then she has been working mostly with french producers. Her latest releases have been on many respected labels (see. Discography).
Yota already worked & collaborated with: Lifelike, Alan Braxe, Zoo Brazil, Håkan Lidbo, John Dahlbäck, Stonebridge, DJ DLG and Redroche, just to name a few of them.

DJ Gomor

DJ Gomor

Analog warfare & acid funky freak… This is DJ Gomor, Nice kalendar, Seq9, Aerosoul Also called Schoffmann Anthony.

The Story began a long time ago… His father was one of the first juke box Wurlitzer dealer and his mother a true fan of Motown, Gainsbourg or “messe pour le temps present” composed by Pierre Henry for Maurice Béjart. The apple never falls very far from the tree!
It is at the age of 12 that Gomor begun djing while picking in the family vinyl collection! This is how Coldcut’s first 45″ ended up in his hands before to be placed in his red colored penny slot-in record player. Further on - and still very young - Anthony was able to make his own musical choices and got into Acid House, New Beat, Chicago Trax, Detroit Techno… up to Fnac Records starring Garnier and Shazz!

Later on, he started producing his own music while recovering vintage instruments, for instance the TB303 that belonged to a Waltz band eager to replace their bass player… Into Funk (which he started to enjoy from the belly of his mother) he used an TR808 as for drums, CZ5000 as a guitar and so on until someone told him :”Hey! This  is almost like Cybotron”

A few years later he became a DJ in-demand playing in the area overing the borders of France, Switzerland and  Germany where he had a chance to perform with musicians he used to dream about… Nowadays he plays mostly house and techno mixed with some old school vinyls.

At the end of 2007 he launched a record label called Natural Undergroove Resources (N.U.R records) and signed artists like  Pascal Brockly, le K, Knor, Dop, Kira Neris, Dj Innerstep , Madnus & Scogil…

Many releases also came on labels such as Fluid Ounce (UK), Revolver (Canada), Neverending Records (France), Rachdingue (Spain), Criminal Beat Cartel (France/Germany) and many others… Being skilled and very productive, his remix list includes big names such as Suzanne Vega, Zed Bias or… Coldcut.

Brice Bertran aka Killersounds

Catalan native born in Perpignan in the mid seventies, Brice Bertran was raised in an environment of music and entertainment thanks to his father Yves Bertran who was the leader of the “Star System” pop-rock, R’N’B and soul orchestra where his mother was also involved as a vocalist.
Brice Bertran is often nicknamed “Magic Ears” also due to a very long experience in music creation:
He got his first synthesizer when we was eleven and could get started working with chords and harmonies to great effect, and later on with the help of an Atari computer and a Cubase sequencer.
Five years later, he got involved in “Scenario”, a hip hop project inspired by US acts like “The Pharcyde”, “The Roots” or “A Tribe Called Quest”, and he wrote the year after most of the instrumental material for “Suave Minds” which lead him and his two brothers Yves and Lionel to get to work in professional studios.
In 1998, Brice joined the international sound-engineer school SAE where he could perfect his recording and mixing technique. Soon after he was hired by French TV channel France 3 and worked as perch man and sound editor for several movies and shows. It is also during the same period that he started producing some house music.
In 2001 he met Raph Dumas and Manuel Perez and joined the Lace Recordings, Enjoy Recordings and Marendadisc artist roster, getting involved in several productions and also releasing the highly acclaimed “Waiting Lounge” recorded with jazz-guitar hero José Barrachina. Brice Bertran has also remixed a number of artists such as Hakan Lidbo, Martin Venetjoki, P18 or Sinclair.
Further on he recorded and produced projects like Beatmaker or Rouge A Lèvres, while working with labels like Vicky Productions, Undercover/Naïve, Ascetic Music or Deep-Hop Music. Under the Killersounds moniker, he has worked with hip hop legends such as DJ Steady, DJ Tajmahal, DJ Gero and even DJ Duke from the famous French act Assassin.
More recently, Killersounds has remixed « Enlève Tes Talons » by hip-house act Le 4Romain & Libre Penseur (True Flav Records) while Brice Bertran released on Lace Recordings the soulful anthem “I Wish” performed by Valérie Brochard and remixed by Physics and Pilooski.
Still contributing to many club projects like with Max Cherry and Franck Garcia, and still involved in the South French hip hop scene working with new recordings for Unité de Valeur, He is also very much into Latin vibes : Brice is currently working on a project with Brazilian singer/guitar player Osvaldo (member of Moleque De Rua).

CALICO aka CHRISTIAN DJOR

Calico

Born in the early 70’s, he discovered music in the early 80’s when hearing the sounds of Depeche Mode, Yello and Ultravox. At the tender age of 15 he landed his first dj-gig at a venue in his small home town of Vara. It was, however, when involved in a local radio station where the passion for creating mix-tapes and being a dj grew.

Through mutual friends he met DJ Mourad in the mid-90’s and together they more or less shaped The Lodge, a monthly club in the south west of Sweden. They formed Chrismour Project a few years later as an outlet for their mutual passion for the Detroit Techno sound.

One thing led to another and Calico soon met Manuel Perez who received some of his tracks, and without an official release yet Calico appeared live at the Hultsfred Festival in 1996 Sweden. This in turn led to the first release on Svek Records, “Unfinished Diary Chapter One”. More releases did follow on various Swedish labels (G-Force, Solid Beat and Facets among others), both as a solo artist and with the Chrismour Project.

While exploring other sides of the musical spectra (apart from his signature deep house style and techno) he introduced a more eclectic project, Christian Djor, and the track “After Shave” was included on a sampler Manuel’s Wrong Steps imprint. A full EP was in the works but was never fully realized.

Calico moved for two years to Seattle in the late 90’s, and got in contact with DJ Dennis (Selekta Recordings) as well as with Marcel Schooler (Khaimar). The latter helped him land two releases for two sub-labels of SFP in Miami, Deep Touch and Filtered. A taped copy of the track “Feeling You Inside” even found its way to a Tony Humphries online mix-tape before officially released on Deep Touch.

Back in Sweden at the beginning of the new millennium, Calico continued producing and had a release on Swedish label Audio Beyond in 2002 before putting music production on hold for a few years due to work and family life. He did however keep afloat during the last decade with some remix jobs (Robert Miles, Swedish industrial band Covenant, German pop band Riviera to name a few) and a digital release via Selekta Recordings in 2008.

Calico has played along artists and dj’s like Larry Heard, Cari Lekebusch, Bandulu, Alexi Delano, Donald Glaude, Olivier Le Castor, Max Reich, Samuel L Session and Fabrice Lig at venues both in Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain and the US.

Calico has recently started producing new material as well as refining and polishing up on old productions in order to release them to the world.

Tunis Diaspora

“The Sliti Bros”

Tunis Diaspora is the project name uniting the 3 Sliti brothers. All 3 born and raised in the area of Ibn Khaldoun in Tunis, they are DJs and producers on their own rights. Their dedication for Detroit and Chicago sounds is a known fact. With their Tunis Diaspora Project they wanted to mix those two influences with their North African and Mediterranean roots. The result is a series of 3 tracker EP’s where they will expose their definition of deep house and techno: It is funky, raw and heavy on percussion.

Their story began in the mid-eighties when big brother Mourad got hooked by the hip-hop movement and became a skilled break-dancer, before his passion slipped into creative DJing, which lead him to open his music culture to Jazz, Soul, Funk, R’n’B and later on House, Garage and Techno, always working for the local clubs.
Further to becoming Tunisia’s electronic music pioneer, he moved in 1991 to Gothenburg, Sweden where he continued his DJ career. From there he turned to be an important figure of the Swedish club-scene, bringing over  and played all over Europe and Asia, also federating worldwide audiences with his popular radio shows broadcasted on stations such as Mark fm, City fm (Sweden) , Selekta (U.S.A), Interface Pirate Radio (UK) and Mfm (Switzerland)… As an accomplished producer, Mourad has released many of his tracks for labels such as, G-Force, Eloge, Rachdingue, Soul People Music, Next Dimension Music, Selekta … and remixed artists like Hakan lidbo, Alton Miller, Manuel Perez or Pawel Kobak.

The second brother of the three - Nabil - started already mixing in 1992/1993 before migrating to Geneva, Switzerland where he also continued his career, establishing himself as one of this country most effective and creative Djs, working for clubs like : Le Pretexte , FBI , Alhambar , Fenomeno, 2eme Bureau, l´Aiglon, l´Ethno, Scandale…which naturally lead him to get into putting up together some nice tracks with his very special energetic touch.

It did not take long before the youngest - Dali - found his place behind the decks.
He followed to the letter what he was taught by his precursors and, just like them, also moved to Europe and chose Paris as a place to live and get inspired by. Before long, he hooked with the essential house players of the French and international scene and got some cool releases on labels like Soul People Music, Selekta …

Geneva, Paris and Gothenburg are a living part of their respective music production, and you can hear it in what they do, but at the end of the day they all meet at the same point if it ain´ t Detroit, it must be Chicago… with on top that unique and specific oriental vibe only them could create… It’s a family affair!

Alton Miller

Alton Miller

“Detroit’s Legend”

Growing up in the 1970’s in the Motor City, Alton Miller was molded, shaped and reared on Stevie Wonder, Santana, Parliament Funkadelic and the Philadelphia sound…

It was during the early 80’s Alton became friends with a young Derrick May that he decided to start spinning records, citing DJs such as Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan and Timmy Regisford as prime influences.

By the latter part of the same decade, Miller joined forces with George Baker and Chez Damier to start the Music Institute, which was one of the epicentres of the underground House Movement, helping to create the musical volcano that erupted worldwide in 1988.

Between 1989 and 1991 he toured the world with his music. Alton’s affinities for rhythms inspired him to take up conga drumming, leading to an accompaniment for the locally based Katherine Dunham Dance Company. Drumming and its connections to rhythms of all music have proven to be influential to his musical growth…

He then joined forces once again with Derrick May, first as an employee of the artist’s Transmat Records label. Besides his EP on Transmat’s sub-label Fragile, Alton recorded “Pleasure Baby” for Serious Grooves/KMS Records. “I Like Having You” was a debut for his vocal talents. “Dusk” was recorded under the pseudonym Aphrodisiac and was critically acclaimed on both European and North American charts.

By the mid to late ’90s, he had increased his presence in the Detroit area through a number of DJ performances and a stream of stunning twelves.

Since his early recordings Alton has amassed worldwide success and exposure as a House music producer or DJ, and he has recorded and released music for some of the best independent labels in the industry. Guidance Recordings and BPM Records were plateaus for Alton’s inner growth as a musician and songwriter / producer.

Past and recent releases include recordings for Planet E, King Street/Nitegrooves, Trackmode Records, Moods and Grooves and KDJ. Alton teamed up with vocalist / playwriter Dorothea Sharon on their debut single “Glory” for the Japanese label Life Line Records.

Alton debuted on Peacefrog in 2003, with his first album “Stories from Bohemia”, a powerful, moving collection of mature jazz tinged, soulful house grooves with flavours of African and roots music… The release of “Chose to Believe” (Original full vocal) and “My Life” on Deeper Soul Recordings out of Chicago debuted at nr 42 on the DJ Mag Breaks and Beats chart. The recent release of “Abstract Messages” (feat Enid) on Seasons Limited, or his album “Souls Like Mine” on R2/BBE, has also strengthen his position as one of the most influential leader of thedeep-house/nu-jazz scene in the world.

Altons remix credits to date include: Sean Deason’s “Allegory Metaphor” on Intuit-Solar, Jacob Desvarieux’s “An Di Adie” on Distance, Kenny Carvel’s “Rise ” (featuring the late John Redmond) on Music 101 and Llorca’s “I Cry” featuring Mandel Tuner on F-com.

Maria Angeli

maria-angeli1

“London-Rome”

Born in the sensual city of Rome into a renowned Italian family heritage of household-name artists and film makers, it was only a matter of time before Maria Angeli’s own natural talents as a performing artist would simmer to the top. To capture and nurture this raw and exploding creative force, Maria was promptly sent to train at top performing arts schools. It was not long though before she realized that the harder she tried to resist the temptation, the more seductive the idea of relocating to the most dazzling and dynamic European city to pursue her artistic career became. So at the tender age of seventeen, Maria trusted her instincts and packed her bags and moved to London. After an initial avalanche of acting work in various stage productions, short films and commercials, Maria made an executive decision to focus on her true calling: a musical career as a singer songwriter. In 2001 she stood behind a studio microphone for the very first time to belt out deep, sultry house vocals that would blow away Swedish-based DJ and producer Pawel Kobak. This creative collaboration and Maria’s evocative and seductive voice resulted in the two seminal tracks: “You Got Me” and “Looking After No.1″ that were later released as the cornerstone of Kobak’s now hugely successful record label, Route 45 (www.route45.com) In 2002 a chance encounter with London-based DJ and producer Stephen Wakeling, and veteran guitarist Bruce Lister sowed the seeds that are today yielding the fruits of a formidable and copious creative partnership on the verge of musical greatness. Performing as ReddMoon, Maria Angeli and her production partners recently completed their forthcoming album, “Between Earth & Air”, a tour de force of soul-laced electronica, chilled-atmospheric down tempo, and warm, dreamy British folk that will silence any naysayers or so called musical purists. The album was a labor of love for the trio and the perfect vehicle for Maria’s wonderfully velvet and seductive voice. It features an impressive and diverse list of guest musicians including Heather Hoyle, JOndrums, Leon Grant, and members of The London philharmonic orchestra. Tracks to look out for include “Once In a ReddMoon”, “How Could We?”, “Where Do We Go?” and “Ten”. And while her ReddMoon project was coming to fruition, the highly prolific Maria was not sitting idly on the side twiddling her thumbs. She features on three pure electronica tracks on the “Elektric Red” album part of the cutting edged KosmetiQ collection: “Modern Life” remixed by Detail and Stereovox, released on Qritikal records Revox and “Made in Italy” compilation, in February 2008 reached n.8 in Music Week’s upfront club charts. “Doin Jus Fine” also remixed by DETAIL and Frankie Fiasco, released on Qritickal records and “Underneath” one of the first releases also on Qritikal. Maria has also collaborated with London-based musicians/producers, Steve McCarthy and Toby Griffin, under their Parallel outfit. That project gave birth to numerous tracks, including “Something In My Head” that will feature prominently on Parallel’s forthcoming album to be released on i-label (www.myspace.com/parallelsound). And when you possess the vocal prowess of Maria Angeli, you don’t just hide between the technical wizardry of a recording studio – you take your live music show on the road. Maria performs regularly at some of the hottest venues in London, Rome, Florence, Barcelona, and Ibiza including Pacha, The Mermaid Theatre, Akab, and Yab. Maria’s refreshingly diverse vocal range and songwriting abilities have allowed her to work on a plethora of projects alongside established, progressive, and talented producers and musicians. Watch this space for live performance venues and record release dates.
